IRA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

ROADSIDE MARKER DEDICATION AND RE-ENACTMENT

JULY 30, 2022

The Ira Vermont Historical Society hosted a dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 30th at 2PM for the new Vermont Historic Site plaque describing the town's iconic eighteenth century Ira Town Hall. The marker has been in place since 2020 and this was our long awaited opportunity to celebrate. Laura Trieschmann, the Vermont State Historic Preservation Officer gave a short speech. The historical society worked closely with Laura to obtain the roadside marker. Bill Whiteman recounted the history of the town hall in his speech and many of the events which had taken place there. Olivia Gawet enriched the ceremony with two patriotic songs.  After the ceremony the museum on the second floor of the Town Hall was officially open for visitors and light refreshments were served.

Revolutionary War re-enactors from the Massachusetts 3rd Regiment set up an encampment at the Ira Town Office across West Road from the Town Hall. They had a cooking demonstration, musket firing, and talks on period dress and food throughout the day.
