Ira Volunteer Fire Department was started in 1975. It was incorporated shortly thereafter.
Stuart Lincoln and Ralph Perry, Sr. were early supporters. Firefighters were Jim Philbrook, Bill Johnson, Ron Earle, Bob Johnston, Bruce Johnston, Larry Johnson, Ron Johnston, and Larry Lincoln. The Fire Dept. building was built by the firemen. An addition was added in the late 80s by the National Guard. IVFD has owned lots of trucks, bought and sold, parted out, etc. and made money. Lots of sweat and fundraising built the place.
